"THE VALENCIAN WIDOW"

In 1940, Khachaturian has been composing music to Lope de Vega's "The Valencian Widow". The composer was very impressed by splendid comedy, created in Renaissance, the time when situations, intrigues served for establishment of humanistic ideas, glorification of power, dignity and spiritual beauty of individuals. This bright and festive music is not only maximum adequate to the style and character of source of literature, but also includes in itself new capabilities of music-intonation realization of characters of classic drama. The composer succeeded in reflection of national Spanish coloring and characteristics of characters in the play.
The spirit of the times was perfectly reflected in music.
